A series of essays and source materials, written and edited by the author and others, on different aspects of the Slavic vampire tradition. The collection grew out of a college course on "Vampires of the Slavs" that the author first gave at the University of Texas in the mid-1970s, and was designed to allow the reader access to the rich Slavic folklore tradition concerning vampires, that had until then been unavailable in English. Gathered in this anthology are seminal works, some long out of print, others not previously available in English. Though specifically designed for use in college courses on Slavic Folklore or Slavic Civilization, there is much here of interest to the general reader.
